Callum Ilott, along with 18 other athletes, have joined forces for a new Esports series intended to raise money to help fight the Coronavirus.
Including F1 racers, Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, Alexander Albon, George Russell, Antonio Giovinazzi and Nicholas Latifi, the three-round virtual championship will launch today (11 April).
The double-header events will be held on Saturday 11th April, Tuesday 14th April and Friday 17th April. The organisers say all donations from the event will go to the World Health Organization’s Covid-19 Solidarity Relief Fund.
A target of $100,000 has been set on the championship’s donation page.
“The idea came as a way to utilise the current esports platform to raise money to fight the global pandemic as well as entertain fans across the world. We've set a goal of $100,00 and hope to raise as much money as possible for WHO fund with the help of everyone across the globe," said Callum.
The series will run on F1 2019. Saturday’s two 25% distance races will begin at 6pm BST (1pm EDT). The circuit to be used for each round will be selected at random 15 minutes before the start.
Callum will be streaming the event live on his twitch account from 5:45 - twitch.tv/callum_ilott
